How To Prevent Wrinkles – Part One

At Bloom Organics Day Spa we are pretty good at correcting signs of aging. In fact, our track record is excellent. And, as much as we enjoy that, I thought it may also be interesting to consider how to prevent wrinkles in the first place.

In this first part I will focus on diet because, as you know, the skin reflects what goes on inside your body. The liver, kidneys, adrenals, thyroid and intestines, all play a role in healthy clear skin.

The key is to make sure your body is relatively free of toxins. Therefore, the best course of action is to cleanse your body of dangerous substances while putting in a wide variety of the best nutrients possible.

The ‘cleansing organs’ are the liver and kidneys which, when the diet is bad, can lead to breakouts and other skin problems. The adrenal glands make many hormones, such as pregnenolone, DHEA, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Hormonal imbalances can also result in breakouts, dry skin, and other skin problems. The thyroid also creates hormones that work with the adrenal glands to produce energy. Dry, flaky, sluggish skin can be evidence of a weak thyroid. The intestines provide nutrients to all the organs and remove waste products from your body. So when the waste meant for elimination remains in the intestines the skin can become thick, oily, and blemished. Pure, flawless skin is typically a reflection of clean intestines.

Eating a healthy diet which focuses on whole organic foods, is your number one strategy for helping your body detox naturally while supplying the necessary nutrients your skin needs to thrive.

There are some foods that are particularly effective at supporting beautiful, clear skin, including:

  • Animal-based omega-3 fats which help to normalize skin lipids and prevent dehydration in the cells. This keeps skin cells strong and full of moisture, which can help to decrease the appearance of fine lines. Sardines and anchovies are excellent sources of animal-based omega-3s, as is krill oil.
  • Vegetables: Ideally fresh and organic. Fresh vegetable juice is wonderful for your skin. Also consider astaxanthin as a supplement as it is one of the most potent carotenoids. One of the most profoundly effective ways to create the most attractive glow for your skin is by consuming vegetables and fruits that are high in carotenoids.
  • Fermented foods, such as sauerkraut or kimchi, are even better as they can start with the same vegetables but are converted by bacteria into superfoods, which help promote the growth of friendly intestinal bacteria and aid digestion.
  • Avoid sugars, fructose and grains: This is probably the single most important step you can take to improve your skin health. If you eliminate all sugars, fructose and grains from your diet for a few weeks there is a major likelihood you will notice rapid improvement in your complexion.
